South Western Style Wall Art

When I see things in catalogs, many times I think to myself, "Hey, I can make that!" I saw some south western pots and wall art and started brain storming. I had the idea of making a "faux-pot" to hang on the wall.

I used some scrap wood and my RotoZip power tool. You can also use a scroll saw. I just traced a pot design and cut it out. I then made a stencil from a "Southwest Scroll Saw Patterns"
.

I painted the wood all black with acrylic paint. Then using an acrylic turquoise color, sponged in the stencils. I wanted to add a little something and sponged Tulip Paint in a bronze color to add dimension by dabbing lightly. I then made bread dough and made a turquoise colored bead and glued it over a feather and onto the wood.
If you notice, there was a knot and split in the wood which I thought just added to the piece.
I also did the back side. You can get frame hangers that you just glue on to hang on the wall.

I really enjoy working with wood. Definitely a fun and fast project.

How to Make Edward Scissorhand Gloves

Pages

My daughter wanted to be Edward Scissorhands for Halloween.  I made these gloves for her. She has the black pants, boots and leather jacket.
I got gray colored poster board. It was rather thin so I cut it in half, kept the gray on the outside and then with white glue, glued the sheets together.
I found stretchy gloves in Walmart for $2. Using a ruler I just started measuring out the "knives"..thumbs are shorter, then the index finger is longer, middle finger longest...12 inches then next a little shorter.
I cut out the "knives" with a scissor. If you have a matt board and cutter you could definitely use that and get a sharper edge.  I then used Aleene's Box Maker to score the indentation of the "blades".

If you don't have the box maker just use a ruler and an embossing tool or stylus, even a broken pencil.
I had to wear the gloves to stretch them out so I could hot glue the blades to the glove.

I only glued on the upper part of the finger so it could be free and flexible.

I had so much fun making these gloves!

Tomato Cage Decor!

I have been wanting to make a decorative tree for years. I have some empty spaces in my home that I'd like to add some interest. I also have a desk where you can see all the wires behind it and wanted to find a way to "hide" them. Well, this past summer, I finally purchased some tomato cages at Home Depot. They are really inexpensive..about $3.

My first design is for the fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving.
I bought some fall leaf garland at the dollar store along with some fake squash.
I wired the 3 "legs" of the tomato cage. When wiring, I wrapped under and over as well then hot glued to really secure.
Then, starting at the top, I draped the garland on an angle down and around. There were some large spaces so I even hotglued a fewleaves to hold in place to fill in those open spaces.

I then took some artificial squash I had left over and put at the top to hide the leg tips;
I then added lights for the final touch!
It was pretty simple and fun!
I'm planning on doing one for Christmas and another just to use year round with Ivy Garland.
Tell me your thoughts or any other suggestions!
Make it a great day!
